The first week of March we hosted a dinner at Chef Allen’s with Fisher Vineyards wine accompanying the six courses. Juelle Fisher, Proprietor, and Whitney Fisher, daughter and Winemaker, were there to tell us about all of their wines. The wines were spectacular and are showing very well now. Fisher Vineyards

Ripe and fleshy, with appealing spicy, floral currant, plum, black cherry, coffee and leather flavors that are long and persistent on the finish. Drink now through 2008. 3,250 cases made.

The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Coach Insignia is lean and austere, revealing a Bordeaux-like red currant and spicy character with hard tannin in the finish. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.

Sharply focused and well-structured, with depth and flavor. This is a solid, well-constructed effort, with layers of fig, tangerine and apricot. Drink now through 2005. 320 cases made.

The 2000 Chardonnay Paladini (300 cases) reveals fresh, delicious mineral, white corn, and pineapple characteristics, and a medium-bodied, lively, crisp, fruit-driven style. The acidity is noticeable, but not intrusive. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.

Flinty style, with trim, focused pear and pineapple flavors that have a mineral and slightly tinny edge. Light oak on the finish adds complexity. Drink now through 2005. 346 cases made.

The 2000 Chardonnay O'Connor Vineyard, from the Russian River, offers up excellent aromas of pears, pineapples, oranges, and tangerines as well as tangy underlying acidity, medium body, and a distinctive freshness and vibrancy that provides more delineation than normal. Despite its aging in a high percentage of new oak, it is not intrusive.

A rich, plush, remarkably complex wine, with a pretty medley of plum and blackberry; touches of herb and light cedary oak; and ripe fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2007. 600 cases made.

The dark ruby/purple-colored 2000 Merlot RCF Vineyard is clipped and foursquare, with a lean personality (a characteristic of the 2000 vintage). It needs to be consumed over the next 4-5 years.

Sleek and well-defined, with a leesy edge to the ripe pear, smoke, toast and marshmallow flavors, finishing with a tangy, earthy aftertaste. Drink now through 2005. 444 cases made.

The medium-bodied 2000 Chardonnay Whitney's Vineyard Estate (440 cases) exhibits aromas and flavors of white peaches, liquid minerals, flowers, and a hint of nectarines, lively acidity, excellent freshness, and a crisp, zesty finish. It is European in its acid profile. Enjoy it over the next 2-3 years.

Well-oaked, giving a toasty, woody profile that at this stage masks the pear, fig and tangerine flavors underneath. Drink now through 2007. 1,500 cases made.

The 1,800-case 2000 Chardonnay Coach Insignia sees a small amount of new oak (about 38%). It possesses crisp, high acids reminiscent of a full blown Maconnais from southern Burgundy. Notes of fresh citrus and tropical fruits, medium body, and plenty of freshness as well as vibrancy characterize this moderately intense Chardonnay. Consume it over the next 2-3 years.

The winery was founded in 1973, when Fred and Juelle purchased 100 acres in the Mayacamas Mountains on the western slope of Spring Mountain. There, they built a winery tucked in among the vines and Douglas Firs. The winery itself is a product of the estate, having been built from the timber that was cut and milled on-site and crafted into an award-winning facility by their good friend and architect, William Turnbull.

In 1976, the Fishers purchased another 57 acres on the Silverado Trail in the Napa Valley, a property that runs from the Napa Riverto the Eastern Vaca Range, adjacent to the famed Eisele Vineyard, and the source of what was to become our Lamb Vineyard Cabernet, Coach Insignia Cabernet and RCF Vineyard Merlot. Mia Klein has been the Consulting Winemaker for Fisher since the 2000 vintage.
